Early in the 22nd century humanity launches its first attempt at interstellar colonisation to the planet of Orthus orbiting Gleise in the constellation of Libra. Many political and technical challenges have to be faced for the mission to proceed but the ship does leave the Solar System in 2107. Utopian ideals are quickly abandoned as a bitter rift emerges between the colonists dividing them into two opposed groups.
The story of the fate of the two colonies is revealed in an interleaved narrative arc that takes place 200 years later. They have evolved dramatically different political systems and cultures but both teeter on the verge of war and environmental ruin.
Redeeming Blood
Set immediately after the events at the end of Without a City Wall, Redeeming Blood takes up the story of the strange structures on Orthus that are assumed to be of alien origin. Three men, one woman and their golem have to face many challenges and much danger before the mystery is solved.
Interwoven with this story is the related tale of how one of those men endured many years of misadventure to end up on Orthus leading the disparate group. Despite a life based on lying, cheating and manipulation Professor Julius Stutt strives to prove himself a good man while becoming both more than and less than human.
Weft
This book is set in the same universe and approximate time frame as WaCW and RB but shares no characters or narrative events. It examines the conflict between the three power blocs that form in the Sol System as humanity becomes a space dwelling species. This cold war is viewed through the perspective of a junior intelligence operative, Honesty Gréco. She discovers, to her cost, what happens when the deep state plays a deep game.
